Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

MEM19035 - Plan and apply casting techniques for jewellery or object designs

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Determine job requirements

  1. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  2. Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  3. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with SOPs
  4. Identify job requirements from specifications
  5. Determine type of casting techniques and resources required for design
  6. Develop work plan for production that includes clear stages and resource requirements
  7. Determine process requirements for production of wax model
  8. Identify required equipment and prepare for use in accordance with SOPs
  9. Select and use tools to cut materials to required dimensions
  10. Sculpt wax model to specifications and minimise imperfections
  11. Apply required surface finishes based on job requirements
  12. Select a moulding material for style of master, and prepare, pack, dry and burn out in a correct manner
  13. Complete required wax injection of moulds using tools, materials and processes in accordance with SOPs
  14. Vulcanise rubber in accordance with SOPs
  15. Release master pattern using appropriate tools
